Welcome to Season Planning Futures, a subscriber-only feature where I talk about emerging trends and patterns in the 2024-25 season announcements.
It's March, which means cherry blossom tourism, Caitlin Clark worship, Julius Caesar references, and the gradual cascade of 2024-25 season announcements. I'm attempting to write more casual, frequent posts this year as line-ups trickle out, instead of my usual approach: belatedly calculate that nearly every theatre has announced its next season, stress out about my inability to write paid subscriber content on a regular basis, spend weeks obsessing over the same five sentences, wonder why I continually create structures and systems that give me unrelenting anxiety, stare into the abyss, time passes, glaciers melt, empires rise and fall, until it's somehow November and another announcement cycle begins.
This round-up is going to cover season announcements from The Alley Theatre, The Guthrie, Cincinnati Playhouse in the Park, City Theatre Company, Warehouse Theatre (SC), Roundabout Theatre Company, and La Jolla Playhouse.
